Our client came to us from outside of Auckland to purchase "The Mason's" a revived french provincial style dining suite that was in our gallery. She had been searching for a dining suite in this style for a while but unfortunately the table size wasn't big enough. So we went down the route of commissioning a dining suite to suit. Apart from the one visit to the gallery, the entire process was done via email communication, photos and texts.

Our client included us throughout the process of sourcing. We made recommendations along the way. The final purchased items was a solid oval, claw foot mahogany table and 6 solidly made balloon back chairs both purchased separately and perfect for the revival we had in mind.

As our client lives outside of Auckland, we extended our services to pick these up for her and bring them back to our workshop. Our client previously went to view and select the fabric at the textile place when she was in Auckland. The fabric chosen was one that would accentuate her existing mustard tone pottery collection and also with fitting tones to the planned revival.  We later organised the amount and for it to be delivered to the gallery on her behalf. The braiding  was kept traditional in keeping with the style and also to balance out a more modern fabric.

The entire dining set has been hand painted using a custom blended colour. With a mahogany table of this era, the surface was dark, smooth and shiny, so we used alot of brushwork to add texture and depth to the surface, with every edge detailed.

We created a beautiful crackled finish on the top of the balloon back chairs to give it a new authenticity, various techniques have been used to give it a balanced aged look and this was one of them. The suite has been carefully layered with wax work to accentuate its detailing as well as making it extremely durable for dining use.  The brass claw feet was the finishing touch. The only part of the suite that was left in its original condition. It gave the revival a nostalgic feel and paired beautifully with the style and paint finish, it was also nice to have a little piece from its past untouched.

Freight was then arranged for the client and she now has a beautifully revived dining suite, bespoke in design and finish to specifically suit her dining area. A quality solidly made table and chairs  has now been fittingly revived into a beautiful french provincial style dining suite that our client can enjoy for many years to come. Another one we are very proud of.
