Originally a varnished honey coloured wooden table, revived with an Artisan paint finish in a farmhouse rustic style to work as an extra working bench in the centre of a kitchen. The top given an extreme textured and rustic Artisan faux wood farmhouse finish, which allows for knocks and dings and the ability to work and be " rough" on the table top without having to worry too much about damage. Rustic paint finishes like this will in fact look better over time with general wear and tear so makes it ideal for what this table is intended to be used for.
Contrasted with lightened legs and skirting with subtle hues of Artisan colour, aged and distressed creating plenty of character to add into the Kitchen as a relaxed working table with farmhouse vibes. Working with all the imperfections of an old table, we've taken an old table and made it look even older turning it into a character piece to inject a little farmhouse vibe in what would've otherwise been a contemporary space
What we did
Table top : Aired out Tahr premium chalk paint in a bowl for an hour, then Hand painted using Staalmeester 3600 Pure Bristle brush, loading plenty of paint onto the surface, then went back with a hair dryer we pulled the paint in one direction over and over creating extreme texture and drying it at the same time. A second coat was applied to fill in the gaps after pulling it around with a hairdryer.
lightly sanded the dried Tahr Premium Chalk Paint with 240 grit sand paper to level off any super extreme textures, taking care to not smooth it out too much during this process but more to remove any unnatural "bumps"
Detailed with Carbon Black coloured wax in a linear motion, a very light dry brushing/dusting of crisp white wax followed by clear wax over the top and firmly wiped to blend, lighten, and highlight and create variation. Followed by a very light sand with 240 grit to highlight the texture and burnish the surface, then buffed the top firmly with a clean lint free rag to polish.
Legs : Painted using Staalmeester size 18 series 2020 in Crisp White Premium Chalk Paint, followed by Stormy Creek coloured Wax, over the entire surface, followed by Kingsley coloured wax just here and there and Tahr coloured wax also placed just here and there. Steel wooled areas to highlight as well as lightly sanded the surface with 240 grit sandpaper to highlight more of the texture and well distressed the edges
