Knowing how to do a Carbon Black wax is a staple skill in decorative painting with Artisan Premium Chalk Paints. It's the darkest you can go when it comes to waxing and can be used in a myriad of ways to create age, an industrial vibe or to deepen and richen a finish and works wonderfully on darker deeper colours to richen, add life and dimension to the paint finish.

To create a Carbon Black wax you need to mix your Artisan Clear wax and Premium Chalk Paint in Carbon Black together. This allows you to custom mix the strength of your wax, on deeper darker colours you may go a bit stronger (more premium chalk paint in the mix) for lighter colours you may mix it to be more subtle (less premium chalk paint in the mix). You have the freedom to mix and adjust your Carbon Black wax to suit the colour you've chosen and the type of finish you're after to suit.

Using Carbon Black wax will mean that you are about to deepen the colour that you have chosen as far as you can. Carbon Black will create a lovely cool tone in your paint finish when compared to Artisan Dark wax which is more of a vintage brown wax and will effectively create a warmer more vintage look to your finish.

This week we've created a behind the scenes video on helping you to master your Carbon Black wax; which runs you through all the details and a behind the scenes look at using it,  but first  lets take a quick look at some different ways to pair and use Carbon Black wax.
