Summer is truly here in NZ and one of the beauties of No Sanding, No Priming; minimal prep is that a redo or creating a new look over an existing Artisan paint finish  is a simple as it was the first time, just  paint straight over pretty much any  existing finish whether it be varnish or paint.

As part of  Artisan At Home project this table which was given a Bruised Petal look last Autumn has this summer has been re-imagined into a different look and style with Ocean Trench in Velvet Luxe; our little prep, hybrid chalk paint that self levels ideal for a one colour finish that is suitable for both indoors and outdoors. This deep mysterious colour has been paired with our lightest Stone Effects in Rustic Rye creating a wonderful striking contrast with the appearance and feel of a stone top all painted straight over the previous bruised petal finish with no prep other than a clean. Artisan colours and finishes allows you to transcend through different styles, to suit or to help create the bespoke look and feel you are wanting to for your space whether it be a dusky pink or stone top finish; it's all possible with Artisan Paints and Products. .

What we did :

Table legs and frame :
Hand painted with Ocean Trench Velvet Luxe using a Staalmeester 2 inch and 1 inch flat brush, 2 x coats over Bruised Petal.

Top : Stone Effects in Rustic Rye using stone effects spreading tool kits in all 3 sizes. A firm, smooth  flat spread on the first coat in multiple directions followed by a second smooth flat spread in opposing directions from the first coat to create strong variation but minimal peaks and rustic textures for ease of cleaning.

Rustic Rye Stone Effects was lightened further with a crisp white wash to suit this outdoor space. To do this: Dilute crisp white premium chalk paint with water in a container ; start with a 70 water 30 paint mix, try it out on your stone effects top then adjust to suit, add more crisp white premium chalk paint to lighten further and make the wash stronger, add more water to dilute further and make the wash more subtle to suit. This will also decoratively enhance the texture further.

With your pre-mixed crisp white wash use your staalmeester brush to brush out over a small section  and lightly rag with a clean lint free rag to blend it in. Repeat until you have covered the entire top

Once the wash was dry ( a few minutes after ragging)  we followed with 3 thin coats of Artisan Lacquer for ease of clean for a table top surface

Tip: When doing Stone Effects on a table top we always recommend adding a top coat of Artisan lacquer for ease of cleaning see video of how easy it is to clean a textured stone top after applying lacquer.

See video below of cleaning the table top and a closer look at the one the many possible stone effects possible through Artisan Stone Effects
