This project is a great example of how to work with tired, cracked, chipped and battered pieces this table even had evidence of previous failed attempts of repair with glues and nails visible, with no sanding priming or preparation we worked to enhance all the imperfections.
A table painted for @artisanathome to sit like an entrance table on a covered deck . Working with the piece rather than against it, all of the imperfections have been highlighted and brought out with a textured paint finish making it perfectly imperfect as a soft feature piece.
Cracks have been highlighted with gold glaze, holes and chips filled with gold creme, leading your eye to all the imperfections and choosing these details to sit loud and proud.
An Artisan distressed and aged paint finish has given this table a new lease on life withholding a stunning old worldly charm in soft blues and greens. Artisan Colours selected to sit perfectly on the deck connecting with the garden outlook and sea views visible from the deck that it will sit on.
What we did:
Painted in Artisan Toulouse Premium Chalk Paint, using a Staalmeester 2020 pro hybrid brush in size 18 and 20 for the top as well as a pointed tip for the legs and barley twist. Painting in all directions for Subtle texture
Light sand on table top once dry in areas to remove unwanted texture
Coloured Wax in a strong Dusky Fields mix, followed by a stronger mix of Liberty Coloured Wax to overpower the Dusky Fields in areas.
Artisan Dark wax over the top, rubbing firmly with a clean lint free rag to remove age and pull back layers of coloured waxes exposing Toulouse Blue.
Finley gold glaze in cracks and selected areas, Soft Gold Metallic Creme in chips and edges followed by steel wool in areas as well as 24 grit sandpaper to distress and pull back the metallics and layers.
