Our clients in Pt Chev, had this vintage piano and stool that had been in the family and was passed down to them. Overall the piano was solid and simple in design and the accompanying stool was also solid with some cabriole legs. A very personal touch had been added through some original and historic embroidery work which meant the piece has a very high sentimental value.
Our clients wanted this to be a feature in their space and have it tie in with their renovated modern home and decor. It needed a modern edge but in keeping with the original nature of the piece and with a complimenting style. We were very excited to take this project on board in making this revival a "new intertwined with old". With the nature of this piece, the work was booked to take place in our clients home. During the consultation we talked about installing mouldings and thus creating a filigree design, this in turn would further soften it's solid shape, add character and accentuate the paint detailing. Through emails, photo inspiration and moulding examples we were able to agree on a concept design. It was clear from the start that our clients wanted the napoleonic blue colour which we were excited about and we all agreed on a contrasting colour on the inside of old white adding beautiful contrast to the blue whilst also lifting the entire colour and depth. We preserved the inscription of the original manufacturer by framing a box around it and leaving it in the original condition.
Carefully hand painted in napoleonic blue with detailed layers of wax applied to provide the right texture and the functional durability. The dark rustic wax also served to really accentuate the additionally installed filigree.
The end result is a bespoke piano for our clients, created and finished to be in harmony with the home and theme however still be striking as a conversation piece always to be cherished. Another revival we are very proud of.
